Adolph Zang
Adolph Zang was a German-Jewish immigrant who became a prosperous beer baron in the 1870s. His breweries were the first in Colorado. He also bought mines near Cripple Creek, including the Vindicator, parts of which have been preserved between Cripple Creek and Victor. His beer sold more in its time than did either Coors or Tivoli beers. He was wise and sold his beer interests when the prohibition law was passed in the 1920s therefore losing no money.
What is now Broomfield was once land owned by Zang, and known as ‘Zang’s Spur’ where hops and barley were grown as well as Percheron horses to pull his beer wagons. He was born in 1856 and died in 1916.

Hi! Loved the photos of the Zang mansion but wanted to clear up some historical misconceptions about Adolph Zang. First of all, he wasn't German-Jewish, but rather German-American, having been born in Louisville, Kentucky. I don't believe that he was affiliated with any church, however, having been raised in the Freethinker tradition of his father. His father, Philip Zang, was the brewer, not the son, although A.Z. did move to Colorado in 1876 to help with his father's brewery. In 1889 father and son decided to sell to a British syndicate while the younger Zang still maintained his role as manager of the brewery. He sold his shares in 1912, which did not make the syndicate happy, but by then he'd amassed much wealth in the way of real estate and gold mines and died quite a
wealthy man.
One thing never mentioned about Adolph Zang is that he was a childhood school mate of Louis Brandeis, who went on to become the first Jewish justice on the United States Supreme Court.
I have since learned that Adolph Zang was instrumental in developing and founding Lakeside Amusement Park in Denver aka Lakeside Realty and Amusement Company. It was known as White City when it opened in 1908 and is now part of Lakewood,
