This past year I decided to shorten my last name from Cynthia Mahon-Southern to Cynthia Southern to celebrate my tenth wedding anniversary on 07/22/10. I have been married to my wonderful husband, Vern Southern, for ten years and decided to keep only his last name.

Politics confound me anymore

I have been following the debate over universal health care to a degree.  I think it is wrong for the government to legislate that we buy health insurance but at the same time I am sorry that some people don't have access to health care because of money, no job or a pre existing condition.  I hear the bickering going on.  I hear the messages left by constituents to politicians of both parties.  I work in the health insurance field and see firsthand how people hurt and need help.  At the same time this country will go broke if it gives everyone substandard rationed health care.

I am going thru some personal issues in my life at the moment and frankly I am so sick of politicians arguing with one another over something so needed by everyone.  One huge hospital bill can send a family into bankruptcy and that isn't fair.

I see the Democrats wanting to give everything away for free and the Republicans not wanting to give an inch to cover those who need it.  I see people die from lack of health care in the USA due to no money but also in socialized medicine countries where care is rationed.

Because of this I feel as though I want to become unaffiliated politically.  I am so sick of anger and have seen the repercussions of anger all around me.  Politicians are unwilling to forgive one another and ultimately their constituents are hurt.  Something has to change with the political process and its matter of civility and non civility in this country.

We live in a great country with a great medical options and access to care for most.  Emergency care and access to it are the norm.  Preventative screenings for cancer and life saving medicines are within reach.  We live long lives due to our American medical system.  The great choices and life saving options should remain as they are.

I do not want to see socialized medicine adopted in this country.  All health care would become substandard and inadequate.  Seeing your family doctor or getting routine medical procedures and screenings would become impersonal and would require long wait times.  The Canadian socialized health care system confirms this.  Canadian citizens wait for years to get routine life saving surgeries or procedures.  Many become impatient and come to the United States for their care even if it means the patient will have to pay for 100% of that care.

I have personal experience in not wanting socialized medicine in the USA.

I found out on the Fox News Channel website today that the Culpeper County Public Schools in Virginia have pulled Anne Frank’s The Diary of a Young Girl: The Definitive Edition from its library shelves and stopped using it in its eighth grade English honor courses. An alternate version of the book is being used instead. Jim Allen, director of instruction for the Culpeper school system pulled it after one parent voiced a complaint about the contents of the book.

Matthew 25:35-40
For I was an hungered, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

Please remember the poor, hurting and lonely people during this Christmas season.  Giving anything that you can to the Salvation Army is an excellent way to achieve this.  Christ spoke the above words about charity.

General Thanksgiving
By the PRESIDENT of the United States Of America
A PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favour; and Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me "to recommend to the people of the United States a DAY OF PUBLIC THANSGIVING and PRAYER, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to eftablish a form of government for their safety and happiness:"

NOW THEREFORE, I do recommend and assign THURSDAY, the TWENTY-SIXTH DAY of NOVEMBER next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed;-- for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enable to establish Constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted;-- for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge;-- and, in general, for all the great and various favours which He has been pleased to confer upon us.

And also, that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions;-- to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wife, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shewn kindness unto us); and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally to grant unto all mankind fuch a degree of temporal profperity as he alone knows to be beft.

GIVEN under my hand, at the city of New-York, the third day of October, in the year of our Lord, one thousand seven hundred and eighty-nine.

This is an exceptional book and program I became aware of recently. This program attempts to eliminate bullying, gossiping and rumor spreading thru the use of positive words. If you have nothing positive to say about someone don't say it. Always say positive things about someone.

I am a Republican and have been since registering to vote at age 18.  I supported Ronald Reagan in his bid for office in 1980.  He promised to restore national honor, strength and dignity.  He would free the American Embassy hostages in Tehran, Iran.  He promised to break the Soviet Union.  We would no longer tolerate those who meant our nation harm.  He would strengthen and grow the United States military.

My choice for President and Vice President are John McCain and Sarah Palin.  They bring resolve, honesty, integrity and determination to this campaign.  John McCain is the original political maverick standing for what he believed even if it meant disagreement with others in the GOP and most recently with President George W Bush.
